Arm Splints

Unlike the monoglove style of armbinder that holds both arms in a single sleeve covering the wearer from fingertips to above the elbows, arm splints leave the arms separate and the hands free. Yet an arm splint remains an incredibly effective piece of bondage gear, immobilizing the submissive partner by preventing them from bending their arms at the elbow. Attachment points in the form of D-rings that run the length of these unique bondage restraints allow a dominant to further control their partner’s movements by binding the arms to each other or to furniture with ropes; snaphooks; or chains. Arms may be bound in front or in back of the body. The best-quality, most effective armsplints are those that are made of thicker, boot-weight leather with heavy welded hardware that won’t pinch skin or pull apart as your submissive partner struggles.

Arm Splints and a bondage gear quality comparison and buyers guide

A quality Arm Splint should have thick, sturdy straps and hardware. It can be a challenge to identify the best quality and value when shopping for Arm Splints and other bondage gear online, as products may look very similar in model shots that don’t show the level of detail that would help the shopper identify differences in construction, design details, components used, the thickness and quality of the leather, and overall craftsmanship. One rarely sees side-by-side comparisons of such products, and the photos that are available are often heavily edited in PhotoShop, or may even be of a different product that has subsequently been knocked off. As an example below we took two Arm Splints from 2010, pictured below. One is a Stockroom Arm Splint, manufactured in Los Angeles. The other was produced by Strict Leather in an overseas factory. The two items are similar in design and function, but on close inspection, significant differences can be noted.

Bondage Gear Comparison

These products, at the time they were compared (2010), were both being sold at the same price. On close inspection, the American-made product (from Stockroom.com) used a thicker-gauge leather, thicker/wider/stronger straps, and larger/heavier-gauge hardware. In addition, the construction was different, with the straps on the Stockroom product extending all the way around the splint, which would appear to be a sturdier and more secure design than the Strict Leather version, where the thinner/shorter straps are riveted on using the same number of rivets, but are in two pieces, not wrapping around. Overall, while the products are similar, the Stockroom version appears to be of stronger/better construction. However, if shown in a modeled shot from a distance, these differences would be harder to see.

Also note the differences in leather craftsmanship in the photos above.  Both products are 2-ply, with a heavier latigo leather on the outside, and a lighter garment-weight leather lining on the inside. However, the higher-quality splint (a Stockroom product) has more finished edges, with a finished leather covering stitched around the edge to cover it, making it both smoother and sturdier. On the comparison product (from Strict Leather), the inner garment-leather lining has been folded under and stitched to itself; This leaves a rougher edge exposed and creates a crevice which is vulnerable to wear and tear and which may also collect dirt and contaminants from play that are difficult to clean.

It is clear, not all bondage gear is created equal.
